Origins
Weisser is German and grew up in the German startup-and-design scene, with self-described early experimentation in web development, design, and startup internships through his teenage years. By his own account on his personal site and in podcast interviews, he encountered Nick Bostrom's Superintelligence in his late teens, which he has cited as the starting point for a long-running interest in AI alignment, longevity, and existential-risk reduction. He has stated publicly that he applied to Y Combinator at age 18 and received an interview but was not accepted.
He enrolled at CODE University of Applied Sciences in Berlin in 2017, the project-based private German technical university focused on software engineering, digital design, and product, where his coursework included software engineering, machine learning, product, design, and science-and-technology studies. He departed in 2018 before completion. The 2018 founding of existentialrisk.info and a brief health-insurance startup concept date from this period.
Career
Weisser's pre-AI career sits at the intersection of decentralized-science (DeSci) and crypto-aligned biotech funding. In 2021 he co-founded VitaDAO, the decentralized autonomous organization for funding early-stage longevity research, with Tyler Golato and Paul Kohlhaas of Molecule. VitaDAO has subsequently funded more than 20 longevity-research projects with over $10 million in cumulative deployed capital, and Weisser has been credited in primary press coverage with helping unlock approximately $40 million for unconventional research across the broader DeSci ecosystem.
The same period produced his role as Chief Ecosystem and AI at Molecule, the decentralized intellectual-property and biopharma-funding platform headquartered in Berlin and Zug, from December 2021 through January 2023. Earlier sources during this period also list a Chief Product title. He has continued an advisory role at Molecule through the Prime Intellect period. The 2022 founding of Bio science accelerator extended the DeSci portfolio into a broader life-sciences-incubation framework. In 2023 Weisser served as a co-creator of Zuzalu, the two-month pop-up city in Montenegro convened by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin around longevity, network states, AI, and decentralized governance, an event he has cited in podcast interviews as a formative period for the eventual Prime Intellect founding thesis.
In late 2023 Weisser co-founded Prime Intellect with Johannes Hagemann, a former AI research engineer at Aleph Alpha who had worked on distributed training-framework infrastructure there from early 2022 and held a master's in IT-systems engineering from the Hasso Plattner Institute. The founding thesis was that geographically dispersed compute, coordinated by efficient low-bandwidth training algorithms and crypto-economic incentives, could break the centralized-data-center concentration of frontier-AI training and enable an open-source path to superintelligence. The company is incorporated as a Delaware C corporation and headquartered in San Francisco.
The fundraising trajectory has been tightly compressed. The $5.5 million seed round of April 2024 was co-led by Distributed Global and CoinFund, with Compound, Collab+Currency, and Juan Benet of Protocol Labs among the participants. The $15 million seed extension of February 2025 led by Founders Fund added Menlo Ventures and individual investors including Andrej Karpathy, Clem Delangue of Hugging Face, Dylan Patel of SemiAnalysis, Tri Dao of Together AI, Emad Mostaque formerly of Stability AI, and Jake Medwell of 8VC. The December 2025 Series B added approximately $49.9 million, bringing cumulative private capital to approximately $70 million across three publicly disclosed rounds.

Network
Weisser's longest-running professional partnership is with Johannes Hagemann, his Prime Intellect co-founder and chief technology officer, who brought the Aleph Alpha distributed-training-framework operating credential and the Hasso Plattner Institute systems-engineering background that complemented Weisser's product-and-ecosystem orientation. The Prime Intellect senior team has expanded through the 2024-to-2026 period as the company added engineering and research staff.
The decentralized-science network from VitaDAO and Molecule includes Tyler Golato and Paul Kohlhaas. The Zuzalu period in 2023 brought sustained working relationships with Vitalik Buterin and the Ethereum-aligned longevity-and-network-states communities.
The Prime Intellect investor base provides the broader network anchor. Founders Fund, Menlo Ventures, Distributed Global, and CoinFund are the institutional investors. Individual investors include Andrej Karpathy, Clem Delangue at Hugging Face, Tri Dao at Together AI, Dylan Patel at SemiAnalysis, and Emad Mostaque formerly of Stability AI. Among decentralized-AI peer founders his Prime Intellect position runs in parallel with Karan Malhotra at Nous Research, with overlap on the open-weights distribution thesis with Aidan Gomez at Cohere, Liang Wenfeng at DeepSeek, and the broader LAION and EleutherAI open-source AI research community.
Position in the field
As of May 2026, Weisser occupies a structurally distinctive position among insurgent-lab chief executives through the combination of the German project-based-university and DeSci background, the longevity-and-existential-risk research orientation predating his AI work, and the decentralized-training architectural bet at Prime Intellect. The career arc through CODE University, VitaDAO, Molecule, Zuzalu, and Prime Intellect maps onto a founder profile uncommon among the broader insurgent-AI cohort, where chief-executive paths typically run through frontier-lab research, prior big-tech careers, or quantitative-trading firms.
Industry coverage has consistently characterized Prime Intellect under Weisser's leadership as the principal commercial organization advancing the decentralized-AI-training thesis, alongside Nous Research on the post-training and open-weights side, with the INTELLECT line characterized in primary press as the most-public decentralized-training program at large-foundation-model scale. The competitive frame is unusual: Prime Intellect's distributed-training premise differs architecturally from the centralized-data-center orthodoxy that dominates the frontier-AI cohort, and the company has positioned its products toward open-weights research output and a commercial compute-and-environments platform rather than a closed-frontier model service.
The Prime Intellect cumulative funding through December 2025, approximately $70 million, is moderate compared to peer insurgent labs at higher capital scales such as Magic, Reflection AI, Safe Superintelligence, and Thinking Machines Lab. The funding scale is sufficient to support the INTELLECT research program but is below the largest insurgent rounds. The longevity-and-DeSci leadership produces an additional public-profile dimension uncommon among AI founders, with industry coverage frequently noting the dual mandate of open-superintelligence and longevity-research advocacy.
Outlook
Open questions over the next 6 to 18 months:
- INTELLECT-4 and successor model release. Capability profile of the next-generation INTELLECT model relative to peer commercial open-weights offerings, and published benchmark positions on standard reasoning evaluations.
- Prime Intellect commercial product expansion. Commercial traction of the Prime Intellect compute platform, the Environments Hub, and the Prime-RL framework relative to peer compute and post-training platforms.
- Decentralized-training scaling. Whether the INTELLECT line scales beyond the 100B-parameter Mixture-of-Experts class through fully distributed training, and whether geographically distributed runs replace the centralized-cluster pattern of INTELLECT-3.
- Series-C successor financing. Whether Prime Intellect raises a follow-on round at a higher valuation, the lead investor profile, and the cumulative capital level relative to insurgent-cohort peers.
- Decentralized-science continuity. Whether VitaDAO, Molecule, and Bio continue to advance under Weisser's advisory and co-founder roles while Prime Intellect's commercial intensity increases.
- Public-talk and research-paper cadence. Whether Weisser continues the public-thesis schedule on the open-superintelligence premise and the decentralized-AI-training line, and whether Prime Intellect publishes additional technical papers on the INTELLECT architecture.
